Update on the City’s Solar Rebate Program from the Mayor’s Office

April 1st, 2008 · No Comments

All,
I am writing to provide an update on the City’s solar rebate program. As many of you know, the planned roll-out of the rebate program schedule for April 1 (today) has been postponed based on potential action at the Board of Supervisors to freeze funding for the rebate program. Supervisor McGoldrick introduced legislation at the Board of Supervisors meeting today that would freeze funding for the solar rebate program. His legislation will be heard at the Board’s Budget Committee tomorrow promptly at 1PM. (The agenda of the Budget Committee meeting is attached). The Mayor and our office have talked with Supervisor McGoldrick to address his concerns and productive conversations have resulted, but it appears that he is advancing the legislation to freeze funding at this point. This legislation would require approval by the full Board to freeze funds.

There is an opportunity to comment on this proposal to freeze funding at tomorrow’s (Wednesday, April 2) Budget Committee (again promptly at 1PM). I encourage those who are able to come to the meeting and show support for the solar rebate program. It will be important for Supervisors to hear first-hand accounts of the benefits of the rebate program, and also the liabilities of not implementing the rebate program.

Should you have specific questions, feel free to email me.
thanks,
Wade
