Here are two families that are going to go solar if the subsidy passes:

Hello Supervisor Mirkarimi,

My family owns a 3 unit building in the Mission. We do everything possible to be responsible landlords and San Franciscan residents. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the news that the solar rebate program would be enacted so that we could afford solar panels for the building - the cost is prohibitive otherwise. So many of our friend and peers are in the same boat.

Your proposal to restrict the rebate to a deserving minority puts solar panels and environmental responsibility out of reach for so many eager San Franciscans. Please allow us to become early adopters of this technology. Its families like ours that will help our city take the lead in social and environmental responsibility - but we cant do it without the support of our city.

All the best,

AF and LO

Dear Supervisor Mirkarimi:

I had the pleasure of meeting you several months ago with Michael Johnson. I’m emailing you now in response to your proposed changes to the SF solar rebate. I am a resident of Potrero Hill and have signed up to install solar panels on my house, a decision made possible in large part because of the SF solar rebate program that I hoped (indeed, assumed) was going to pass this week. I am dismayed to learn today that this rebate may not come to be. Many neighbors have become excited and willing to invest in solar energy recently — and it’s the SF rebate that has really made the investment feasible for most people. I truly hope that you will support the solar rebate for all San Franciscans that has been in the works.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
AT
