There had been some holdups in this trump-card-$6000-subsidy that requires solar installers to hire a full time employee that graduates from the City Workforce Development Program, but now it off the ground apparently (below is the latest email from them). All of us installers have been bouncing emails back and forth with them wildly with “when? when? when?” and finally looks like this will get moving in enough time to close out the year with no issues.
Personally, I have a beef with this particular subsidy because it shakes out the mom-and-pop solar installers who don’t have the bandwidth to hire a new full-time employee from being able to compete in the SF market (no one is going to even pick up the phone if it’s going to cost them a few grand extra right off the bat just to use you as their installer.) But that’s how it is, and we need to hire one to remain competitive, so that’s what we’re doing.

Thank you for your interest in GoSolar SF and the GoSolarSF Workforce Development Incentive program. The GoSolarSF Incentive program provides a $6,000 incentive for residential installations performed by contractors employing graduates of GoSolarSF-approved workforce development programs.
Solar installers may participate in this program by becoming certified to perform installations that qualify for the $6,000 workforce development incentive of the GoSolarSF Program. OEWD has developed a list of workforce referral agencies from which your company can interview and hire qualified San Francisco workers.
Complete information on how your company can participate can be found at:
